Bait Monkey Unhappy!

Academy put the new Booyah Toadrunner on this weeks add and apparently sold out.  Tackle Warehouse has them listed as in stock at $9.99 same price that Academy was selling them for.

While writing this post I made the executive decision to buy off of eBay for $10.95 per frog shipped.  Don't want to take the chance of there being a shortage and prices going through the roof like what happened with the Sprinker.

Bait Monkey Happy Now!

To Good To Be True? I think so.

The seller has a checkered feedback history and the product description doesn't line up with the picture.
It's the 4oz bottle, not the Gallon which is pictured.  Would have been a heck of a deal if true.  I almost bit on it.

Pleasantly Skunked Tonight

GOMH SW & Sullivan Platte River Outlet
I watched The Classic down at Lake Conroe all day.  It stayed cloudy with a North wind.  It got up to about 41℉.  I was kind of bored by the weigh in so I headed to the GOMH.  There is still some ice in the SPRO and open water hasn't progressed much toward the small island in Platte.  There was more open water to the North in Channel Inn Bay.
I wasn't really expecting to catch anything in 30 degree water, but you never know.

I  fished for about 5 minutes in the wind on the NE side, then I switched to the SW where it was actually kind of pleasant.  I got better acquainted with the Daiwa SS SV and the 6'10"Med Tatula and I tuned the Vision 110 Knock Offs I put hooks on.  Maybe they will catch me some fish some day.  I like the colors, but the quality of the lure blank isn't the greatest.  I didn't realize I had to put hooks on them, so I overpaid a little bit.  Oh Well.

I ended up fishing for about an hour.  Not a hint of a fish.  It was just nice to be out.

In the Mail Today- Jonathan Paul Fitovers and Christopherson's Crawtubes (and a Little Forgotten Treasure)

I really like the fact that they come with a permanently attached tether strap.
I got 50 White Crawtubes and 50 Huckleberry Crawtubes from Christopherson's in Alexandria.
I put them in Zoom bags.
And while I was getting the Zoom bags I discovered some Crawtubes that I bought last year and forgot where in my big box of Zoom Horny Toads.  They are form Jerry's Baits and Tackle out of who knows where.  I got them on Ebay last year.  They are smoke/purple and bluegill.  They came in packs of 20 and I also transferred these to Zoom bags.

Fuego GOMH

I couldn't resist bidding on a couple of Team Daiwa Fuego reels that were spelled Diawa in their listings. The sellers error was my gain as I picked them up for an excellent price. I was the only bidder on both. They arrived yesterday and I had to try them out this morning.

Yes the new reels performed well and I landed some jumpin bullheads

I got 6x 14's"
4x 13's"
2x 12's"
1x 11.5"

3 were caught on a black/blue Strike King Pure Poison with beat up black/blue Berkley Havoc Craw Fatty trailer.
The other 10 went to a green pumpkin Lake Fork Crawtube, pushing the Crawtube into the #1 spot for my bass catchers this year.

I got fish on the South and North sides. I missed a few hits as well.

Bait Monkey's Got That Look In The Eye...

Update: My monkey's high bid wasn't high enough, there was one monkey who was willing to pay more. The rod was a discontinued Avid 7'3"MH telescopic. I already have 2 of them; They are my #1 hollow body frog rod and my #1 buzz toad rod. Did I really need another?

In the Mail: Berkley Frenzy Poppers

When these came up for auction on Ebay, I couldn't help myself and put in a bid. Much to my surprise my bid held, but just barely. What I really wanted was the rainbow trout one as that I don't have that one in my collection yet. Now that I have two clown's and two shad, I will put one of each in my tackle box.

Bass Pundit 6 Year Blogirthday!!!/Blogiversery

Back on Saturday November 20th 2004 I wrote the 1st Bass Pundit blog Post: Welcome from the BP to the Bass Pundit Blog. Since then this blog has spit out 1744 posts.

For the Blogirthday the infamous Ebayt Monkey has gotten me a

Shimano Crucial Rod model CRC-C70MH (That's a 7' Medium Heavy Fast Action Rod)
And put in bids
On a St.Croix Avid
A St. Croix Pro Glass
And another Shimano Crucial along with a lot of Zoom Super Flukes.

Update: Won the Zoom Super Fluke auction as the only bidder, that's always nice. Came to $1.70 per 10 pack, 5 packs of Glow/Chart Back.
The Pro Glass auction is up Monday
The Avid auction is up Tuesday
The 2nd Crucial auction is up Wednesday (doubt I will get this one, but you never know. Sometimes other people don't bid and it is a busy holiday week.)

Update: Yep was out bid on the 2nd Crucial.

Ebayt Monkey Crawtube Shootdown

This week on Ebay 3 lots (6packs, 6packs, 8packs) of Lake Fork Craw Tube's came up for auction. When I became aware of the auction 1 lot had a bid on it and the other two did not. I decided to bid on the two that didn't have any bids and then I was going to wait and see what happened with the other auction and probably bid on that. When I bid on one of the lots with 6 packs I made the mistake of including the shipping charge in my max bid, so I bid $6 more than I wanted too. I kind of figured I was a shoe in to win that one as you can get LFCT's on sale
for about the price I bid in that auction.

Today the auction came do and I slept through being able to bid for that 3rd auction. When I went to check and find out what happened I didn't win anything.

The 6 pack I bid on went for $15.68 + $6.00 shipping
The 8 pack I bid on went for $16.78 + $6.00 shipping to a different bidder
The 6 pack that I failed to bid on went for $7.00 + $6.00 shipping to a different bidder than the 1st two.

Seriously, is that how it goes down?

I guess I can't get to bent out of shape as I didn't end up paying significantly more for a lot than I wanted too. I believe I can buy quality knock offs for quite a bit less than the 2 lots I bid on's final price. The person who got 6 packs for $13 made out like a bandit.

Frenzy Popper News

Blue Shiner is my favorite Berkley Frenzy Popper color (personally I think it is more of a purpleish color). After Berkley dropped the Blue Shiner color I was able to buy a couple dozen through Ebay for $4 per lure or under. Yesterday a Blue Shiner Frenzy Popper went on Ebay for $18.52 plus $3.65 for shipping.

I had a pike steal one of mine last week. That particular one had a decent sized chip out of the top of it's popping cup, but it seemed to work just fine. That pike sure liked it. Since I couldn't find it and the water was flat calm my guess is that the pike got hooked and has it in it's mouth. I wonder if someone will one day find it?

DNF

Have elected not to fish today. The weather is a little cool, but pretty nice today. However after a full tournament day I could use the break. The weather looks to be awesome this week, so I should be getting out a lot.

Yesterday I got my 21 (modern) Herb's Dilly Buzzbaits in the mail. With shipping I paid $1.44 per lure. I have seen (modern) Herb's Dilly's with competitive Ebay auctions sell for over $10 per lure. The seller really screwed up by selling all of them in 2 big lots and then I got lucky that the auctions flew under the radar. By far my best deal on Ebay ever. Now it's no big deal that I have lost 2 Dilly's in the past two years.

Too Tired to Blog

It's 12:30AM and I think I need to go to bed. I will be blogging about the Fall Outing and I went out for a few hours on Platte last night.

Update: I pre-dated last night's Platte Report, so it is below this post.

And Bazinga, I got 21 Herb's Dilly Buzzbaits on Ebay for $30 more than half of which is shipping & handling charges.

Not Sure I Believe This Is Legit

Berkley Frenzy Popper sells on Ebay for 36.88 before shipping.

High Teens, believable $20+ maybe. Over $30, seriously what is that buyer thinking?

FYI- Anyone that wants to offer me $30 for a Frenzy Popper, I WILL SELL a few.

DNF

Today was windy, cloudy, and cool so I didn't go to the lake. Tommorrow is suppose to be much nicer so I will probably get out.

This morning I woke up early to put a Ebay bid on a pair of St. Croix rods that were for sale. I discovered the auction last night and thought I had a real possibility of getting a good deal. I am currently considering buying a 7' MH or H rod and these rods were both 7' MH, one X-fast, one moderate action. The thing about it was they were custom made rods built on SCIII blanks (Avid), so I wasn't real sure what the value was compared to a factory built Avid. I'm guessing they are of slightly less value than a factory Avid. Anyway I was quickly disappointed to discover that these rods had not gone through unnoticed and there was a small group of bidders slowly bidding the rods up. I wasn't going to play that stupid game and so I waited to snipe in the last few seconds. By the time it came to bid the rods were actually about $10 more than I really wanted to pay for them, but I still thought they were probably at a bargin price, so I put in a bid for $15 more than I really wanted to pay. Well that didn't end up being enough, but it was the 2nd highest bid made, which kind of tells me these rods went for about what they were really worth and were not a total steal.

In the Mail today:
The 2 Snagproof Ish Phat Frog's that I won on Ebay for $10 shipped. The colors are "Iced Out" blue and "Buck Nasty" brown. The reviews I've read on these frogs have all been positive. Will probably be throwing them tomorrow.

In Today's Mail

Lately I've read some good stuff about the Lucky Craft Gunfish, so I decided I had to have one. Won this Gunfish 95 Chartruese Shad on Ebay. Could have got a little better deal had I waited a bit longer, but still got it for more than a buck under retail.

Don't think it will see the water with today's wind.

Megabass Mille LacK of Action

Today I got all 3 of the Megabass lures I won on Ebay from Japan. I headed out to Eddy's Jetty on Mille Lacs to try the firetiger Pop Max and the yellowish brown Pop X along with the Payo Buzzjet and a bunch of my other topwater lures. Unfortunately there were just not any smallies to be fooled tonight.

The Megabass Pop Max is an interesting lure. You can work it as a popper or with a quick light bouncing action it walks the dog in a really tight pattern. The lure rolls as it walks. I wasn't nearly as enamored with the smaller Megabass Pop X. There was a bit of a chop on the water and it was a challenge to work the thing properly. From what I could tell you have to be kind of gentle to work it right. On a number of retrieves I was getting fouled up with the front hook.

I did head to Cemetery Jetty but between the mosquito's and the overgrown weeds I decided it wasn't worth it to try and get out on it.

Ebayt Monkey Strikes Yet Again

Well I got a Deps Buzzjet Jr., well sort of anyway. The one I won is a Payo Megabass Knock Off. I don't know anything about Payo lures and I think I might have overpaid a little bit based on the asking prices of the Payo Vision 110 knock offs listed on Ebay. I didn't have anything to go on with the Buzzjet Jr. knock off and I did get it for quite a bit less than the $22-$26 that a Deps Buzzjet will fetch at auction.

Can't wait to get it and use it. Think it will be a hot Fall lure.

Ebayt Monkey Again

Well tonight I swallowed hard and bought not 1 but 2 Megabass Pop Max Lures. Both are supposed to be new and one comes in the package and the other doesn't. At Tackle Warhouse a Megabass Pop Max sells new for $28. I got the two for just under $41 and a quarter shipped.

What happened was that I put in the minimum remaining bid for the bluegill color in it's package, thinking that I probably wouldn't get it and then I would snap up the lime which was on a Buy It now for under $20 shipped. Well much to my surprise that minimum remaining bid was accepted and then it held on for the next 3 hours and I won the lure.

I looked through several hundred Pop Max listings and the lemon/lime one for under $20 was the very best deal out there. I figured since my Yellow Magic is lemon/lime, a bullfrog Frenzy Popper is lemon/lime that I might as well have a lemon/lime Pop Max to fish those against, so I bought it.

I've lost my mind!

And I'm still in the market for a Deps Buzzjet or Deps Buzzjet Jr. The one I bid on tonight went for more than I was willing to pay. I already have my eye on another one that is closing this week.

Ebayt Monkey

The Bait Monkey has me on Ebay again. Of late I have picked up a wacky rigging O-ring tool, Academy Sports H20 Express Popper, 3 albino Spro Bronzeye Frogs, and the above pictured Megabass Pop-X.

Later today I will most likely be bidding on a bluegill Deps Buzzjet Jr. and bluegill Megabass Pop Max. These two items are both from the same seller as the Megabass Pop-X and I'm thinking the combined shipping discount could help my bids a little because my max bid threshold is higher.

So far I think I've been getting good deals on everything but the H20 popper, which I bought in no small part because the particular Ebay Store is in business run by and to help our returning wounded warriors.

Bait Monkey Acquisitions

Even though I haven't been fishing much. I have bought some stuff on Ebay:

Some Mend-It, watermelon Smithwick Dead Stick Rogues and an early purple ghost Berkely Frenzy Popper.

This is a Yellow Magic Popper that I got for about a buck less than they sell for at Tackle Warehouse.
