Today Is The Latest...

OK, so in the song it's "today is the greatest", but today is the latest it's been in the Spring since moving up North in 2003 that I have gotten my 1st open water fish of the year;  I got that one in 2008 when I called ice off Platte Lake on the 24th.  We are nowhere close to ice being off this year.  I may head up to check the GOMH later on tonight and throw a few casts just for the heck of it.  We got about 3 more inches of snow yesterday and it's only gonna get 40 degrees today and tomorrow, however on Friday it's supposed to get to 63 and 70 by Sunday.  Platte could be open  by the end of the month, maybe

Turn Up the BASS!

Turn Up the BASS! is a post over at BASSEAST blog by spencer that gives a top 10 list of pre-tournament pump up songs.

I think like most tournament guys I have my own "pump up" music.

I don't have an MP3 player with a mix of songs, so I listen straight through on a CD. The length of the drive determines how many CD's I listen too.

Over the past couple of year my go to music has been:
#1 Fisherman's Blues by The Waterboys

#2 October by U2

This year I think I might substitute out October for The Waterboys Fisherman's Blues Part Two.

The Call- Getting updated on the band.

I have joined Facebook and I found a page their dedicated to The Call which was my favorite band up until U2 came out with All That You Can't Leave Behind and U2 went from #2 to #1. I have tried in the past to find out about what The Call has been up to online but my searches turned up almost nothing.

From Facebook I discovered some later albums that I didn't know about, found some You Tube Video's, and even a fan website and Wikipedia page that I never knew existed. I went to Amazon and will be updating my collection of their music.

I think I Still Believe was the first Call song I ever heard and I was drawn in as much by the lyrics as the music.

U2: No Line On The Horizon Initial Listening Review.

U2 is my favorite band and today I bought their new album No Line On The Horizon. I heard a few of the songs performed on Letterman last week and liked what I heard and my little brother Todd blogged about the album so my pump was primed to buy it when I went into Brainerd today.

Here are my thoughts on the songs on a first or second listen if I heard the song on Letterman.

No Line on the Horizon- Cool song, I like the music and the Oh oh oh oh's are great.

Magnificent- 1st heard on Letterman and I liked it live. I think the lyrics are pretty clear that this is a "Praise" song or "Psalm." Not only do I really like the lyrics but the song has a good flow. "Justified till we die, you and I will magnify"

Moment of Surrender- A slower song and kind of familiar, not the strongest song but I like the parts where Bono and the Edge Sing together.

Unknown Caller- Another slow song once again I really enjoy the parts where Edge gets in on the singing.

I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight- Heard it first on Letterman. This song sounds a lot like a song from How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb maybe City of Blinding Lights. It is a solid U2 offering but not original.

Get On Your Boots- Being the 1st Single I heard this one online and then on Letterman. Get On Your Boots is the biggest rocker on the album and I like it, but I don't think it is as good as Vertigo which I think is the Bomb.

Stand Up Comedy- Up tempo but not a rocker, I like some of the Edge guitar riffs. Not the strongest song but not bad.

Fez- Being Born- This actually two songs. The Fez part reminds me of stuff that Edge did for the Captive movie soundtrack in that it sounds really experimental. Fez doesn't last very long. Being Born is slow, one of the two weakest songs.

White as Snow- Didn't make a big impression on me the first listen through. It is a slower song, a spiritual, and the most stripped down song on the album.

Breathe- Heard it on Letterman and really liked it live. It's a very good song, but I think with a little more work it could have been better as it has several parts that are catchy but there are parts where that gets lost.

Cedars of Lebanon- I need a second listen to make heads or tails of this song. This is one like Being Born is on the weak side.

I think the best songs are No Line, Magnificent, Boots, and Breathe. Nothing here has blown me away but I think it is an album I will enjoy as I listen more.

U2 3D

My older brother Jeff took me to see the U2 3D concert movie at the IMAX for my birthday. WOW!!! Amazing!!! Increadbile!!! Awesome!!! A must see for all U2 fans no matter how casual.

The promotional material claimed the experience was "better than a front row seat" and I would have to agree with that assesment. The 3D really puts you right there in a way a flat screen never could. It would be revolutionary to see a sporting event in this new high res 3D 3ality digital technology. I would love to watch a football or hockey game where you are so close, it's like the action is right in front of you and larger than life. I am sure watching on the big IMAX screen enhanced the experience quite a bit over what you would get in a regular theater. It really was amazing.

Also as a birthday gift Jeff gave me U2 the Joshua Tree (Remastered / Expanded) (Super Deluxe Edition) (2CD/DVD). The first CD is the Joshua Tree remastered, the second is the Joshua Tree B-sides plus Silver and Gold (Sun City) and 4 songs and a poetry reading that I've never heard before. The DVD is the Joshua Tree Tour Paris Concert, Outside it's America-Documentary and two music video's. Plus you get a small book/memior and some U2 prints. Thanks Jeff!
