2026 Tackle Warehouse Opener (3/8/26)

It looks like this may be the last 50-degree day for some time, and I wanted to grab one of my Dad's vintage Storm Thin Fins, which he probably bought in the late 70's. So today is my Tackle Warehouse Opener.

One of my earliest memories of fishing is trolling with one of these two Thin Fins and getting a small pike on West Sylvia along the shoreline south of the channel to East Sylvia. I am setting a goal of getting five fish on them this year. I don't know if they have been fished since the 1980's. I am quite confident they have not by fished in the 21st Century. The Thin Fin weighs 3/8oz, but is built like a football-shaped potato chip, so it didn't cast very well, and trolling with it wasn't my jam. I'm pretty sure my modern tackle will let me throw it across the channel at the Grumpy Old Man Hole. Catching five fish shouldn't be that difficult once the bulheads move in. I may or may not swap out the hooks.

My Tackle Warehouse is Open for 2026. Last year, I opened it on March 14th last year.

My Tackle Warehouse Opener (3/14/25)

Because we went down to Elk River yesterday to have dinner with Belle, Todd, and Kristen, I didn't get the Tackle Warehouse officially opened yesterday. It was even nicer today, with temperatures in the low 70s. I found my Silver Minnows and took out some spinnerbaits.  I think I will invest in more plastic totes next time I am in Dollar General. I need to organize in there, it is a bit of a mess right now..

2024 Tackle Warehouse Opener

It got over 50℉ today, so Opened up my Tackle Warehouse today and took a brief look around. I need to do a thorough refresher sometime this spring. I kind of know what is there, but kind of not.

Platte/Tackle Warehouse Open(3/29/21)

It got to the mid 70's today.

2:30 Today Public Access
Whitecaps were blowing across the lake as far as the eye could see to the North. There was an ice sheet out front of the access, but I'm pretty sure it got blown across the bay by the day's end. I didn't get out to check the access in the evening because of colonoscopy prep. I did confirm Jenny's was ice-free. Long was 50-60% ice-free. Bulldog and Rock were maybe 20% open. No clue about Sullivan

In the afternoon I got the Trophy prepped to be vacuumed out and then opened the Tackle Warehouse when I came back home to start the colonoscopy prep. I should have gotten to lake place earlier today. Oh well.

Tackle Warehouse Opener 2019(4/16/19)

Goal Achieved: Under Technique and Tackle Goals
It was so nice out today (68℉) I went down and opened up the Tackle Warehouse for the first time this year.  It's definitely on the late end for a TWO thanks to the snow, but not the latest either.
Earlier this month I also achieved the getting the Trolling Motor fixed goal.  It's got a brand new head thanks to them having one just laying around.  I should work at low speeds now.  Hooray!

The lakes should be open by the weekend (4 more days).
