I was not for acquiring Kirk. I thought we should have rolled with Case and Teddy. The fact that Kirk did not get us to an NFC Championship Game marks his tenure as a quarterback as a failure. I have hard feelings toward Kirk. He gave his all on the field, but his money-grubbing ways limited his effectiveness. Thanks for nothing, Captain! 

Vikes Have Record Comeback To Take The North

 

I had to head South to take my mom to my brother's place in Bloomington right after the blocked punt for a Colts TD. What a comedy of errors that first half was. The Vikes scored their second touchdown shortly after I arrived. And dog gummit they scored  5 TD's in the second half and win it in overtime with the greatest comeback in NFL history.

Kirk was not at his best, but the team overcame and hung on for the victory beating the Jets 27-22. The Division title is on hold for KOC because the Lions won today. We get the Lions next in Detriot. SKOL!

Monday Night Meltdown In Philly

 24-7, neither team scores in the 2nd half and Kirk threw 3 Int's in the 2nd Half. The D and Special Teams gave the Offense opportunities, but it was the bad Kirk Show Tonight. On to the Lions.

BP Endorces This Message

 It seems clear that Kirk's priorities in life and a football team that contends for Championships are incompatible. The holes in his game combined with the Viking's squad holes are too big to justify the price tag. If Kirk wants to prioritize the welfare of his family and causes he believes in above winning football, that is his business. He can take his overpriced talents elsewhere. I hope some other team makes us a quality offer for his services. Impress me, Kwesi!

This Vikes Fan Was Impressed Even Though We Lost

                               

As my last post proves I was pretty down on the Vikes chances vs. Da Bears minus Kendricks. Then I discover both Mack and Hicks were in the line-up for Da Bears. All Trubisky had to be was competent and there is no way the Bears were losing that game. He was more than competent until he threw that pick at the end. The Bears were lucky the time ran out because we had the Bears D on their heels. Had the Vikes had time to run a couple more plays it might have been a different result.  

I don't care about what the Kirk haters say, I've been one of them too. Kirk is a pretty darn good QB. He gets punched in the mouth and comes right back. Without all the injuries on D this team would be a top contender to win the Super Bowl. Zimmer has done a fantastic job keeping this team together. Those that think he should be fired are clueless. The D just simply doesn't have the horses for Zim to ride. Losing Kendricks was such a gut punch. I thought the D played with a ton of heart vs. the Bears. They also got beat up pretty good but came up big when it mattered.  Vikes fans that are disappointed after that performance have no clue what they witnessed.  That was a team giving its all to win when they were outmatched on one side of the ball. The Vikes almost scratched and clawed their way to victory. It would not surprise me one bit if the Bears make the playoffs this year. Trubisky is a steaky QB, that Montgomery kid can run, and that Bears D is formidable especially with Hicks healthy. 

As for the Vikes, I am proud of the team. I really hope Kendricks is back for the Christmas Day game. I think that the Saints team may be vulnerable on a short week after a game they went all out to win and came up short vs. the Super Bowl champs.  Meanwhile, I think the Vikes have something to prove to themselves. Beating the living daylights out of the Saints, the way they did the Packers the second time they played them this season is a real possibility if Kendricks returns. Without Kendricks, I think Zim beating the Saints will be tough, but not impossible. Like I said, I think the Vikes have something to prove. That makes a Zim team very dangerous.   

2020 Is Going Full 2020 For Vikings Fans

This has the makings of a very ugly year for the purple. Very little is going right and the season may be a lost cause by the time Hunter steps on the field. The way the Offense performed in Green Bay gave me some optimism. Man did Kirk stink this week.  Bad Kirk is nothing new.  What was Speilman thinking in extending the guy's contract?

My answer is yes if Kubiak/Stefanski can keep the 49er's Defence off balance.

My answer is yes if the Vikings O-Line holds up.  If Dalvin is able to find holes and Kirk has time the Vikes are a dangerous team.

If Kirk gets help we have a chance.

Vikings Wildcard Week Outlook: Not Optimistic

It's not that I think the Vikes have no shot.  It's just that this team has too many question marks for me to get up on the bandwagon for this game.

Is Dalvin healthy?
Will our O-Line be able to hold up?
Is Theien able to meaningfully contribute?
Will bad Kirk show up?
Is Kendricks healthy?
Can the D play shut down Payton/Brees, and Company?

The Vikes will probably need to play their best game of the year to win.  The team has just been too inconsistent for me to place any faith in them.

I Disagree With This Headline

Kirk Cousin's play was not high on the list of why the Vikings lost to the Packers on Monday night football.  Adam Thielen dropped a perfectly thrown ball that he is normally money on.  Instead of a momentum building big play on third down, Kirk is credited with an incomplete pass and the team has to punt.  The gadget play with Diggs throwing the ball to Kirk was there and Diggs missed a wide-open Cousins.  We had the Packers defense fooled and let them off the hook;  This missed opportunity as a momentum shifter cannot be overlooked.  We didn't score another point.  The running game was almost non-existent probably due to bad Offensive Line play.  The Offensive Line flat outplayed poorly with multiple sacks and pressures with only 3 or 4 guys rushing.  Kirk had that 4th quarter touchdown pass taken away due to one of our linemen getting beat and having to hold.  On the interception, Diggs has got to make a better play on the ball either not allowing the interception to take place or making the tackle and thus not allowing any kind of return.  The Offensive staff clearly got beat by Green Bay's Defensive staff.  The team failed Kirk way more than the other way around.     

Vikings Week 14 Outlook: Thumbs Up

First my thoughts on the Loss at Seattle.  What a disastrous 3rd Quarter and start of the fourth.  I wonder how the game would have turned out had Rhodes not gotten that unnecessary roughness penalty.  The team lost the plot there for a while after that mistake. I am impressed that the Vikes/Cousins fought back as effectively as they did.  It's quite astonishing that we actually had a chance to take the lead in the fourth quarter.  It's a shame they couldn't finish the job, what a missed opportunity.

I am pretty sure the team is going to be in a surly mood come Sunday at home.  The Lions will have the advantage of a long week for them and a short week for us. That shouldn't matter that much.  The Lions undrafted rookie QB is starting his second game.  I am sure the Lions are going to want to run the ball as much as possible.  The Vikes D has to be embarrassed about how many yards they gave up on the ground in Seattle, so good luck with that Detroit.  Zimm vs. a rookie QB.  This one could get ugly in a good way.  I highly doubt the Lions will be able to come in and pull what Denver did.  Last week the Lions allowed Trubisky to throw for over 300 yards and 3 touchdowns.  But I think the Vikes need to get the running game re-established.  Pound the rock boys, SKOL!

(I also think if Dalvin isn't 100% healthy than they should sit him for this one.)

 

Vikings Week 13 Outlook: Apprehensive

This week's game is a huge opportunity.  Beating one of the best teams in football at their place on Monday Night Football would be really nice to see.  I am not getting my hopes up to high.  Russell Wilson is a magician and Kirk's record in big spot games is spotty at best.  It is possible that Zimmer and Stefanski/Kubiak will come up with a stellar game plan.  I certainly expect the Vikes to show more life coming out of the bye than the Cheese did last week.  If the Vikes are good enough to beat Seattle this week I think that will pretty much guarantee us a playoff spot.  It would be a great first step toward winning the Division.  A loss isn't the end of the world provided the team stays healthy, but it would obviously put the team in a more difficult spot. Every game the Vikings play from now on is big.  It has been an exciting season so far and I hope it continues with a strong Vikings efforts every game.  Skol! 

Vikings Outlook After Week 2: Still Thumbs Up!

The Defense had a bad quarter and Cousins performance was atrocious for the most part.  Losing the second game of the season in Green Bay 21-16 does not give me a reason to panic.  The penalty call on the Diggs touchdown was bogus and without it, I don't think Diggs takes his helmet off.    The Defensive performance in the final 3 quarters was steller.  Our running game is solid.  Sure it's tough losing a game that was there for the taking, but it isn't the end of the world.  Cousins play is what it is, which is wildly inconsistent and generally below average when facing good opponents.  On Sunday his play was just flat out poor and it cost us the win.  Hopefully, the coaching staff can find a way to get into Cousins's head and get him to perform better when the lights are brightest.  I don't see us losing versus the Raiders at home and the Bears game is definitely winnable if we can eliminate the turnovers.  My outlook for the team is still positive.

Why I Am Not Drunk The On Purple Kool Aid This Year

Simply put, Kirk Cousins showed he wasn't up to the task when the competition was good and the lights were bright.  That was knock on him coming into last season and he played true to form.  Hopefully, things will go better for Captain Kirk this year.  Maybe our O-Line play and running game improve and things finally click for Kirk against the top of the line competition.  I don't have any faith in Kirk becoming what we need. 

Our defense needs to improve as well.  More turnovers men, more turnovers! 

Who's Guy Was Kirk?

A lot of unhappy fans here in Vikings country right now.  The peanut gallery is calling for General Manager Rick Spielman and Mike Zimmer's head.  I believe those are foolish opinions, as the Vikings team culture is very good.  Sure, an 8.5-win team is a disappointment, but with the offensive line as currently constructed, that is what we were.  And what we were was a missed field goal in Lambert away from making the playoffs in which the team didn't stand much of a chance anyway.

Anyway, let's go back to what I was writing this blog about.  I believe the Kirk Cousins hire was a decision made at the very top of the organization.  I believe Kirk Cousins was the Wilf's guy, first and foremost. Blame Ziggy if you think bringing Cousins in was a mistake.

Captain Kirk Crashes the Starship

I see I didn't blog my thoughts on Vikings QBs after last season.  I believed we should have re-signed Keenum and Teddy rather than spend the big money on Kirk Cousins.  Both Keenum and Teddy proved to me that they had an "it" factor that makes them tough QBs to beat in big games.  Cousins had the opportunity to justify the huge contract tonight in Soldiers Field and came up woefully short.  He misfired on a sure touchdown to Stephon Diggs.  He threw a lousy interception at the end of the first half when we had an opportunity to put points on the board. And with a chance to lead a long game-tying drive in the fourth quarter immediately threw a Bears game-clinching pick 6.  This doesn't mean the season is over, but that was a troubling performance to me, to say the least.

The pressure is now ramped up for next week's game versus Team Cheese, and you know who thrives on pressure?  Aaron Rodgers.  Do you know who has a rep for folding under pressure?  You do, Captain Kirk, and you failed your first major test.

I'm officially hitting it.
