I've Changed The Look At The Log Blog

I'm not totally thrilled with the way the top of the blog looks.  What I need to do is play around with that picture of the Grumpy Old Men at Pic Monkey to see what I can come up with there.

I Didn't Take August Off This Year

18.75 caught 8-26
I blogged about 25 fishing trips I took in August over at the Fishing Log Blog.  That is by far a record for fishing trip blogs in August.  Why did I get out so much this year in August?

1. The fishing was good for the most part; I only got skunked on 2 trips out of the 27 I took.
2. I have the Trophy in the water at the lake place;   It's a superior platform for me to fish out of and not having to deal with the hassle of launching from the trailer is huge for me as most of my trips were two hours or less.  It's no more difficult than fishing at the GOMH.
3. They were biting on frogs, my favorite way to catch 'em.

Above Average

About Fishing in MN:
I've fished 20 days already this year.  If you are interested in reading about my trips this isn't the best of my blogs to do it at as that I don't record all of my fishing trips here.  The Bass Pundit Fishing Log Blog is where all of them are at.

HMMM, C' MON MAN!

This is my first blog here at the Flagship this month and I only had 8 posts total in June.  I only have blogged 12 of the 25 days I fished in June at the Fishing Log Blog so far (but if you go to the link you will see I blogged all 4 trips I've taken this month so far.)  I really should have posted Horny Toad Goes BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! SWOOSH! here at the Flagship this month at least.  I've got to blame my lack of blogging on fatigue from the two tournaments and Pete's short stay.  I didn't even blog who won the Minnesota Bowfin Championship this year yet here at Bass Pundit.  And it's almost Vikings training camp.

C' Mon Man!!!

Fishing Stats So Far This Year:
However, I have been keeping my fishing log at Fish Swami pretty much religiously.  I am happy to report I only caught 63 less fish in June of this year compared to June of last year.  Had we not had that fast warm up in early June, the numbers would have been even closer.  I've gotten 20 more pike this year than I did in all of last year and 6 more smallies.  I didn't catch a single smallmouth last year.  I am way down this year in the bass count compared to last year, but 538 is still a respectable number.  Topwater fish are way down from last year when I already had about 100 at this time on the Stanley Phantom alone.  My Grass Pig numbers are way down, but still a respectable 150 fish caught on them; The Grass Pig is my #1 lure again this year at least so far.  My craw tube numbers are up over last years, but I haven't gotten much on a Chigger Craw;  I just haven't fished Chigger Craws this year.  I did catch 89 fish there over about a 3 week span on a River 2 Sea Yabbie, which is a new bait for me this year.  I have caught fish on 8 more different lures than I did all of last year.

I'm 10 down this year on the walleye count, but dead even on dogfish with 3.  I'm way up on Rock Bass though with 17 more than last year and I've got rock bass factory the Whitefish Chain yet to go.  I may get some rock bass on Pelican Lake too.  One of these days I will get the Trophy on the water.  Our water levels on Platte/Sullivan are back down to normal and the fishing at the GOMH is really off now for the most part, though I did lose a good one out there a couple of mornings ago.

There Is An App For That!

There are a lot of fishing log smart phone apps. I was thinking tonight that if done well a fishing log app could be a convenient way to compile fishing catching data I would be interested in tracking. One problem I don't own a smart phone and don't foresee me buying one. It is just not something I see the utility, justifying the expense for me personally. So for the foreseeable future if and when I log catch information, which I plan on doing more of next year, I will be doing it with a scrap of paper and a pen. The biggest problems with that system is that I forget the paper or pen or the paper gets wet.

What info do I want to keep? Fish numbers caught, size, and lure data, basically the details that are easy to forget/misremember.

I plan to track this stuff this year at Bass Pundit's Fishing Log Blog, of coarse.
And also with Fish Swami, which is an online fishing log that will compile statistics.

I'm back (for a day)

I plan to blog the last couple of weeks fishing adventures over at the Fishing Log Blog, I'll let yeah know when that is ready.

The MN Fishing Openner is only a few hours away, Hooray! I may or may not hit Mille Lacs at mid-night, then tommorrow I'll be hitting the water at the St. Louis River south of Duluth with GEM taking kids walleye fishing. When we get back, I plan to head to Sconi to pre-fish Bone for a couple of days. The weather tommorrow is supposed to be cool and rainy, oh boy!

Good Luck to my fellow Minnesocoldians!

In the meantime get over to BassFan to register and play the Stratos BassFan Patterns Game.
