Bass Snatcher Blind Tournament at Fish Trap Lake

If I can catch a limit tomorrow I am virtually guaranteed my best finish of the year to date;  We've only got 10 boats fishing.  I drew Guy Henkensiefken for the second year in a row for the blind tournament and he's always given me a fair shot in his boat.  He has won both of the tournaments I fished with him.  Last year my heart just wasn't in it at Cullen Chain; I got my limit and checked out.  I'm going into this one just hoping to get a limit, and maybe if I'm lucky I can at least make a top 10 this year.

Fish Trap has clear water and it's supposed to be cloudy with a chance of rain, so the fish should be biting.  Winds are supposed to be light so I'm hoping topwater will play.  I didn't have to switch much gear around from Pelican.  I basically dropped the Yabbies and added Horny Toads and a couple of Snagproof frogs otherwise all the baits I'm carrying our the same.  I switched out a couple of rods and one reel.

I guess we will see what's up in the morning.

Skunked at the GOMH this Morning

6:50-7:50AM
Conditions: Sunny, cool, with a bit of a breeze out of the NE

I wanted to check some things at Platte/Sullivan just in case that is the lake picked for our blind tournament this week.  We find out what lake it will be tomorrow when the lakes go off limits to pre-fishing.  Water is definitely up and flowing at the Grumpy Old Man Hole.  No sign of fish though.  I almost lost a Yabbie to a snag that shouldn't have been there.  Some idiot must have thrown a pretty good sized rock off the bridge.  I did have what I assume was a pike bite off one of the legs of my Horny Toad at one of my other shore spots and I had another pike bite there as well.

Pelican Lake Tournament Quick Report

I was to tired after the tournament yesterday to get around to giving my quick report then.  My partner prepared me for the mind set I should have going in that I probably would not get a lot of bites, but the one's I'd get would probably be good one's.  Unfortunately I lost a really good bass that threw my KVD Sexy Dawg back at me first thing in the morning.  Had I caught that fish, I'd feel good about my day, but I didn't so I don't.  I only caught 4 bass for the day and I got 1 pike on a crankbait. I believe I tied my best weight of the season at  10-1.

I'll see about getting out the full story later this week along with the Leech Lake tournament report at well.

Bass Snatcher Pelican Lake Preview

It's going to be a beautiful sunny day tomorrow, which means the lake will be full of recreational boat traffic.  That doesn't really bother me.  The fish should be used to it.  My boater has been catching quality sized fish, but not a whole lot of them.  Hopefully that will work out better for me than it did on Leech Lake, where on tournament day the fish just wouldn't bite for me.

I'm hoping maybe I can get a few topwater bites right away as winds are supposed to be light.  Also for the 1st time in a Snatcher Tournament, and maybe in a tournament ever for me, I'm going to have a Carolina Rig Rod actually rigged with a Carolina Rig.

Well, I better start getting my tackle organized.
