I'm Gonna Have A Rocket, Man

I was informed this week that I won the first Justin Lucas "Rocket" to the Top Contest from Berkley® and Abu Garcia®.  I thought I had guessed 68th Place for Table Rock, but I didn't go back and verify it when I first heard Lucas finished in 68th. I didn't want to get my hopes up.  Then I got an email titled: Winner: Rocket To The Top Contest.  The email didn't tell me what all I had won, so I went back and looked at the contest post on Facebook.  Looks like I will be getting $200 worth of stuff beyond the Revo Rocket Reel.  I'm a happy camper. I've never owned a Revo reel, but I thought about getting some when they first came out and got such good reviews.  Now I'll get my chance.  Not sure which rod I'm going to put it on yet.  I'll have to see what if any lines they send me before I make that decision.  The stuff should arrive by the end of the first week in May, so I'll have plenty of time to figure it out before the Fishing Opener.

18 Blog Posts In March

That is the worst post total for March since I started blogging in Nov. of 2004.  I blame it mostly on Facebook.  I wouldn't say 18 posts is a pathetic number though.

BP Holiday Facebook Fan Drive Day 7

I went through my Facebook account and confirmed a bunch of friend requests from fellow fisherman that have been adding up for the past few months. Then I went through all my friends to send them an invitation to become a fan at the Bass Pundit Facebook Page. I was amazed at just how many of my fishing Facebook friends are not fans of the Bass Pundit Facebook Page; It was over 100 easy. It will be interesting to see just how many choose to "Like" the BP page. It would be really nice if I could get up to 150 125 fans by New Years Day. (Had to downgrade expectations, maybe Christmas week isn't the best time for a fan drive.)

If you are reading this and not a fan of my blogs Facebook page, you can do so by hitting the "Like" Button on the upper right hand corner of my blogs sidebar.

B.A.S.S. Facebook Contest

At the official B.A.S.S. Facebook Page they are having a contest where the prize is getting some lures from B.A.S.S. owner Jerry McKinnis.

The trick is to correctly answer the question:On which lure did Rick Clunn win his first Bassmaster Classic?
It's multiple choice.

Tip: If you don't know the answer Google Rick Clunn and then each of the answers until you get the right one.

If you win and I sent you there, I expect a kickback.

Dave and Dick Grzywinski are now friends

That's right folks I am now Facebook Friends with famed Minnesota Fishing Guide, "The Griz".

It's kind of wierd, The Griz doesn't have a Wall. I can't image he would be on FB much because by reputation he is always out fishing.

Facebook

I spent the better part of yesterday into this morning (it's now 1:40AM) diving into the bass fishing world on Facebook. I've been on Facebook for a couple of months now and pretty much restricted myself to keeping in touch with friends and family. But today for whatever reason I jumped on the bandwagon of friending certain select fellow bass fisherpeople, some of whom I know and some not. I also ended up joining a bunch of Groups and Pages as well. As I stumbled along I did some blog promotion and as a result my blog traffic yesterday was the highest it's been in more than a month, but that isn't saying much.

I think if I had the day over again, I would have started a separate Bass Pundit Facebook account because I don't think much of my blogging is of much interest to friends and family and what I "Share" with friends and family probably isn't too interesting to the fishing people. I may end up starting a separate Bass Pundit FB account anyway or I could do what BassFishingDem and Rich Lindgren have done which is to do a "Page" dedicated to the blog.

Something to think about.

Rats

On tonight's Nightline they covered bloggers. This in and of itself is no biggie and wouldn't merit mention, but as a part of the story, they briefly mentioned a short list and screenshot of examples of blogs that included"...blogs about fishing..." It was up and gone so fast I didn't recognize if it is one on the blogroll, but it wasn't the BP that's for sure.

The fact is I am a "attension whore" and so am quite angry that they didn't say "...blogs about bass fishing" and then give screen shots to all B.P.B.F.E. blogs and all the other Blogroll-O-BassNblog blogs!

Sure, we Bassin/Fishin bloggers are a tiny fraction of the blogosphere population right now, but I bet anglers will eventually recognize the power of blogs, just as fishermen have found the medium of online message boards golden. There is a natural synergy between the pursuit of fish, the power of information flow/networking, and the need to tell one's fishing stories whether true or not.

Blogs will eventually catch on because they hold such great potential as a resource for fishermen.

I think what would really help that out is something somebody like BassFan or the BassFanArmy encouraging people to start a blog and then have a blogroll link under the interact tab. Maybe I should start writing an article on the topic and submit it to them and Co-Angler.com

Anyway, I need to head to BassFan and read up on the Ouachita in case I need to make a last second Fishing Challenge change, that is if it's not too late.

Update 3/3/25: I was wrong, blogging did not catch on in the fishing world. Vlogging on YouTube and TikTok did become a thing, as did groups on Facebook
