GOMH+ Today(4/6/26)

 I drove North Platte Lake Drive tonight, and there was quite a bit more open water along the northern shoreline and Big Island than expected. I would say Platte is about 1/3rd open. Rock is progressing, as is Bulldog, Erskine, and Sullivan. I drove to the Sullivan Inlet on the way home and saw a herd of deer along the road. I also heard my first loon while I fished. It was cold, and I ran out of energy, so I didn't fish for very long. I also had an oprey fly right to me from Platte to Sullivan. Muskrats were about as were ducks. It should warm up some tomorrow and throughout the week. I can taste open water now. Platte should be open by Friday, the 10th.

GOMH Today(4/4/26)

 The final day of this four-day-long winter storm started on the 1st of the month. We were on the low end of what was forecast for snow accumulations. Open water expanded in Channel Inn Bay in Platte Lake a fair amount. The Sullivan Platte River Outlet still looks to have quite a bit of ice, but I imagine it will be gone soon. I didn't check North Platte Lake Drive or Rock Lake because it was sloppy getting to the lake place. I think Platte and the area lakes will go ice-free somewhere between the 10th to the 12th. There were a few swans, ducks, and eagles flying around. Will the loons show this week?

I forgot to put my tackle bag in the car, doh! I  left the bag sitting on the garage steps. I did put the rods in the car, however. There is more open water now on the Sullivan side than there was pre-cold snap. I was much colder today, with temperatures only reaching the mid-30s. I got two bites tonight.  I had a slightly smaller gator bullhead than the one pictured come off as I was pulling it up onto shore that bit on a Mepps Spinner. The Gator in the picture fell for a Rage Swimmer, and it had something in its tummy.  There were ducks, red-wings, eagles, Canadian geese, and swans around tonight.

The sun was out until about 4PM, with temps reaching the mid-40s. Bulldog and Rock only slight progress. Platte seemed like there were areas that had pulled away from the shore quite a bit in our bay along the North Shore. About a 1/3rd of the way to the small island with very little open in Channel Inn Bay. Nobody came to visit at the GOMH tonight and I got one jumper.

Today at GOMH(4/6/22)

 

Had to get out of the house for a bit to get away from cleaning up the house before the parent's arrival, so I took a run-up to the GOMH and threw some casts. Light snow and swans. I got skunked. I would say there were just about a 100-yards of open water. After this weekend's warm-up, it's back to a cool down. We are in the same repeating cycle we have been in since January. I think the ice will not be off Platte until the 26th or 27th.

Lovely night to be out. I thought I might get the first bullhead of the year, but it didn't happen. I got some skipping practice on the NE side. A lot of ducks around tonight on the Sullivan side.

Skunked at the GOMH, But Otters, Eagles, and Muskrats(3/27/20)

Saw a couple of eagles, otters, and the first muskrats of the year,  The first one spooked me.  Didn't get any bites. Depending on how much rain we get and if there is any current which is currently non-existent if we get temps in the '50s on Sunday and Monday I could see me getting a bullhead early next week.

I helped Steve and Kim gather wood in the afternoon instead of going for a walk.  Came home, had dinner then checked out the Inlet and finished the night throwing some casts at the GOMH. I got skunked, but it was peaceful.
